Affordable Housing

Housing costs are rising, making it harder for families to find affordable homes. It’s time for leadership that prioritizes affordable housing, so everyone in our community has a place to call home.

Affordable housing shouldn’t be a dream, it should be a reality.  The demand is here, the builders are ready, so what is hindering smart growth?  In my opinion, it’s simple.  The policies and processes that the county has adopted are the holdup for affordable housing in La Plata County.  I want to see the culture change within the county so it moves back to being a public service for the people.

Affordable housing is a cornerstone of a strong, thriving community. But in La Plata County, the dream of owning a home or even finding a place to rent is slipping out of reach for too many. Rising housing costs, coupled with policies that make it harder to build new homes, are creating an affordability crisis that affects everyone—from young families just starting out, to seniors on fixed incomes.

Imagine a La Plata County where housing is accessible and affordable for all—where young professionals can stay and build their lives, where families can grow, and where seniors can age in place without the fear of being priced out. Affordable housing isn’t just about bricks and mortar—it’s about providing stability, security, and a sense of belonging.
