By prioritizing water conservation, La Plata County can ensure a sustainable future for its residents, agriculture, and natural ecosystems.

We live in a portion of the country where the majority of the headwaters for the Western side of the United States begin.  It’s critical that we use our water efficiently and effectively to show our beneficial uses.  As our area grows and changes, water should be our first priority to preserve the landscape that makes La Plata County so beautiful.

  • Hydroelectric power is a key component of many countries’ energy strategies, promoting sustainability and reliability in energy production.  Why not in La Plata County?
  • The irrigation infrastructure in La Plata County was established long before this area was developed.  The ditch systems have continued to carry water efficiently for well over 100 years.  As new technologies for hydroelectric have improved, I believe we have a great opportunity to think outside the box when it comes to green energy.
  • The other part of protecting our water is making sure our watersheds are properly maintained to reduce wildfire threats.

Here’s a link to one of the many new technologies that I think could benefit our area.
